This MAY be the first of many "Pick the Winner" events for major award shows. If this one works out, perhaps their will be more. We actually would have done one for the Oscar's this past year, but we came up with the idea only a few days before SO it was too late. That means the first one shall be for something that many of us have a passion for.

THE TONY AWARDS!

Below you will find a quick list of the Nominations for the 2011 Tony Awards as well as a link to the ballot form you will have to submit your picks at. DO NOT POST YOU PICKS HERE IN THIS TOPIC. Picks MUST be submitted by ballot to count. The object of the contest is simple. Pick who you think will win and you could win a badge of your own. There is only one badge design, BUT this badge may be awarded to more then one member.

There are TWO ways to win:
- Quantity: Given to the person(s) that correctly guess the MOST award winners no matter what the categories.
- Quality: Given to the person(s) that earns the most points with correct picks. The more "prestigious" the award, the more points earned. (See the ballot form for how many points each award is worth)

---------AND THE WINNERS ARE---------
4getregreat for Quantity (22 out of 26 awards)
and
Amby Leigh for Quality (59 out of 65 points)

They are the winners of the Tony 2011 badge!

Error spotted with the ballot, at the Best Original Score category: instead of a choice for The Book of Mormon Music & Lyrics: Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone, it instead says Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre (3 Points) *.

Bump! Come on folks! It's a topic to talk about THEATRE! We all LOVE theatre (well most of us)! Talk! TALLLLLK!

Look I'll even start a topic of conversation! What shows do you love didn't get the Tony love in the past?
Personally, I am still shocked and appalled to this day that Jekyll and Hyde got no love and the show that DID win that year was Titanic. Titanic. Is. AWFUL.

Posted by: Zelina May 18 2011, 04:31 PM

Titanic....Oh Titanic....That was one cast recording where I kept thing "It's still going?"

Also, I really think the people behind nominations were on crack when they selected them. Missing some good people & shows!

===Radio News===
I still need suggestions! Amby, I got some intresting news that I'll relay to you on Skype!

Posted by: TemporaryButterfly May 18 2011, 11:34 PM

totally put me down for this viewing party. I miss watching the Tonys with a bunch of Broadway nerds.

Posted by: Amby Leigh May 20 2011, 10:59 PM

IMPORTANT LITTLE TIDBIT!

We MIGHT have a little hick-up in the submission form and are not sure if everyone who turned in a ballot has registered.

If you turned in ballot AFTER May 5th, please resubmit your form.
If you want to double check if your ballot is one of the 3 we currently have, please contact me.

Thank you!

Gotta be Chess. Only received two acting nominations. It has a fantastic score, even though the broadway version mutilated the show itself. To be fair, two other shows released in that year were Phantom and Into the Woods, but that still leaves two spots open, and Chess should've been able to grab one of them.

See I feel that while Chess has an epic score, the original production was flawed in pretty much all other ways. It's really only been in recent years were the book has been taken and final made sense of to make the show a legit good show. So I can kind of see why back then it did not get any love at the Tony's. I think if it was revived today, it might get a bit more recognition as a revival. Thought the show REALLY is done best in concert format. Focusing 90% on the music which is the real star of the show.

Posted by: 4getregret May 23 2011, 11:29 PM

Which is why I'm saying that, regardless, Chess should've received a nomination for Best Score, even though the book was among the worst ever written in Broadway musical history. But yeah, concerts of the show are fantastic.

Posting something that may be of interest: Broadway.com's Audience Choice Awards for 2011.

http://www.broadway....rds/award-buzz/

Has some intresting wins, and what I love about this is that some of these wins aren't even Tony noms. Makes me happy. Best Musical surprised me though.

Posted by: Amby Leigh Jun 2 2011, 02:35 PM

Those are all CLEAR audience favorites. I can't forsee a few of them ever coming to light at the Tonys.

Posted by: Amby Leigh Jun 10 2011, 10:54 AM

Reminder!
You have until Sunday at 6 PM EST to get your ballots in. We have just about 10 people that have turned in so far.

If you have signed up for the watching party over skype and we are not currently skype friends, please PM me your skype screen name so that I can add you in on Sunday when the time is right. The room will be built about and 60-90 minutes before the show will start for a little pre-show party and listen to Zelina's online radio station together.

Posted by: Amby Leigh Jun 12 2011, 09:16 AM

Tonight is the night! I'll be adding people into the pre party starting around 6:30! Get your last minute ballots in. If they are not time stamped before 7PM, it will not count.

The listen on Zelina's radio station will be FUN! She is going to start playing the music at 6 if you would like to tune in early. There IS a theme to it. The music will be from previously nominated musicals. Zel has arranged it so so that you'll be able to hear selections from some lesser known musicals to introduce yourself to some new showtunes.

We here on the West Coast are getting the ever popular tape delay... you easterners have fun seeing it live!

Posted by: Amby Leigh Jun 12 2011, 04:47 PM

I am pretty sure it's suppose to be simulcast live like most award shows.

Posted by: Amby Leigh Jun 12 2011, 07:02 PM

Ballot is now CLOSED. Good luck to all! Winner(s) will be announced after the awards.

Posted by: Amby Leigh Jun 12 2011, 11:46 PM

The awards are over and we have our winners!

The race for the badge was CLOSE all night long and in the end alllllll came down to two awards, Leading Actor in a Play and Leading Actor in a Musical, where the leaders had their only real big differences of the night.

Posted by: Mellie Jun 13 2011, 12:08 AM

Posted by: FadedPhantom Jun 13 2011, 01:49 AM

LOLZ top 5 hoo ha! AW MAN AMBY DOESN'T OWE ME TEN DOLLARS NOOOOO!!

Posted by: Sikono Jun 13 2011, 01:52 AM

4th in both places? That was like, really unexpected. XD

Posted by: 4getregret Jun 13 2011, 02:20 AM

YES! Oh my gosh, I'm so happy that I won something... even if my name's misspelled, lol. :U Great show, in my opinion. Loved it all; ESPECIALLY the host-off, Company, and basically all of the performances.

Posted by: Amby Leigh Jun 13 2011, 10:51 AM

Omg 4get your name is SO hard to spell!

Sikono... I knew you were a closet Theatre geek deep inside!

Faded... I find it funny that even with your FAIL best actress pick, you still broke top five in at least one of the two categories.

Wait... Faded DIDN'T choose Sutton Foster for Best Actress? Posted Image How could she?

Oh, and Amby; how did you guess Mark Rylance for Best Actor in a Play? I was torn between Pacino and Mantello... guess my choice didn't really matter for that. :U

Posted by: FadedPhantom Jun 13 2011, 07:41 PM

AHEM! SOMEBODY had to vote for the underdog!!!! ...and I may have been half asleep when I voted and not seen Sutton's name... BUT STILL!!

The same way I pick every Tony award season. The ones I was torn on I looked at the track record for who had won the equivalent award on the other awards show leading up to the Tony's such at Drama Desk and Outer Critics. It was hard to gauge on some this year because it seemed there was a lot of difference on who was "featured" and "leading" between the shows this year but Rylance was a pretty strong winner for the other award ceremonies. If I were you go with the one I would have WANTED to see win, I would have gone with Mantello, but he didn't look like a strong pony to bet on.

EDIT: And considering that he won the Drama League award which is basically gifted the to the SINGLE BEST actor/actress between both musicals AND plays every year... I figured he was the best choice.
